Qingdao University
Qingdao University boasts having the most students in Qingdao including Korean, Japanese, European, Russian, African, American as well as having students from Australia and new Zealand.
QDU has arguably the best social atmosphere amongst all the universities in Shandong and reflects in the student life. With a great location at the centre of the City within a 15 minute walk to the Bars and night club scene.
For Qingdao university we recommend the Language courses over the degree courses, as the degree courses are not enjoyed as much as perhaps in other institutes.
Besides these obvious merits (the social scene) which are desired by a lot of students, The Group language classes are ideal for classroom learning. The classes range from 10 – 30 foreign students learning Chinese and follow the Chinese university system of learning from 8.00 to 12.30 in the morning with the afternoon completely free. The classes provided become more and more diverse in accordance to your level.
For example if you are in the lower level groups you may only have 2 classes but at the high ended classes you could have 4 to 5.
We recommend this university to all students who are looking to improve there Chinese at a mediocre rate whilst enjoying the social aspects of QD.

Ocean University
Ocean University has a number of campuses around Qingdao, International Students taking part in their degree and language programs are usually based in the Fu Mountain campus. Within the same campus, language students are able to go to class following the schedule of 8.30 to 12.30 having four hours of classroom teaching class every week day.
Degree programs are usually in other campuses, shuttle buses are provided from the dormitory and classes are usually in the afternoon.
Ocean University have some great programs over the summer and winter holiday periods
(August/July and late January to late February the dates for the latter are not set as the Chinese Spring Festival changes every year).
These programs are fantastic for orientation and to introduce the Chinese language and culture with a great schedule full of trips and events.
The Difference between Ocean University and Qingdao university’s semester programs are that although both quite relaxed, in regards to class attendance Ocean University is definitely more so. The teaching quality is also not as high as Mandarin X Language schools and is a little further off Qingdao class standard.
Many people within Qingdao have expressed dissatisfaction with the focus on the written part of the Chinese language and the lack of enthusiasm to teaching oral Chinese.
Overall we don’t recommend this language school to keen learners of the language, however due to its relaxed attitudes it’s a great opportunity to gain a student visa that enables you to come to Qingdao with lots of freedom and time to purse what you would want to do.
